AKASA.
Sunrise cafe perched on the Kintamani caldera rim, built around the view of Mount Batur and the lake. Black cold brew was properly extracted, the matcha was balanced and not chalky. Pray for clear skies.

Solid pick.
Akasa sits on the Kintamani caldera rim and is built around one thing, the sunrise view of Mount Batur and the lake. The deck points straight at the volcano. People drive up at 5am from Ubud and Canggu for it. Coffee was a proper black cold brew, not the watery version a lot of Bali cafes serve. Hers was a matcha in a chunky stoneware mug on a wooden tray, with a small water glass on the side. Balanced, not chalky, decent grade. Both warmed us up after a cold ride up. We got unlucky with the weather, a flat grey morning with no view at all. The drinks still made the drive feel worth it, but if you are coming specifically for the sunrise photo, check the forecast the night before. When the sky cooperates, the spot does most of the work for you.

Boy'N'Cow
Big steak, five sauces, sides that actually showed up. We told them it was our birthday and they brought a dessert out. Going back.

Akar Ubud by K Club
Tartare to start, wagyu steaks each, premium cocktails through dinner. Meat was so clean we'd happily eat it raw any night. There was a live show going on while we ate. Top score from both of us.

Pison Ubud
Fish curry with crispy-skin sea bass, crispy pork belly stir-fry with a fried egg on top. Both maxed at 10. Service was fast, food came hot, sambal had teeth. Coming back this week.
